Prep Myths

Are You Falling Victim?

I mean I’m sure we have all heard somethings in our time we question because they just don’t quite make sense… prep isn’t this magic thing its just dieting just very very hard… so here are some prep myths and busting them!

No fruit-
urm what? apparently this is a thing because fruit contains sugar… I mean it does contain natural sugars yes but that wont do you any damage fruits especially berries are super low calories, provide a sweet fix and contain lots of vitamins and antioxidants which will both help with recovery, immune response, inflammation and keep your skin as glowy as it can be on prep.

No running-
I mean there is some in this at times, if you are prone to injury I would stay away from running and if you cant get your heart rate up then again maybe the stairs might be better, but if you find you fit running into your day better (e.g your gym is half hour drive away and you need to do cardio before work) or if finds it keeps your head clear and stress low, then keep going for your runs it wont build up inflammation any more than another form of cardio would and it wont burn off muscle either… do you know how hard it is to actually loose muscle?

No artificial sweeteners-
Now for some people this will be the case if it causes digestive stress and some sweetness are defiantly worse than others (zero cal sauce) but some no added sugar fruit squash, monster ultra or Diet Coke are not going to make you gain weight, you dont want to be smashing back 10 a day but again if these things help you get hydrated, give you a little energy boost or curb some hunger cravings then go for it.

Meal Hacks make life easier-
Its simple this one you can not hack your way through prep, trying to give everything more volume, or taste like McDonalds will probably end up just adding on more calories and fuelling food focus which can be a massive issue post show.

you have to sacrifice life and relationships -
you do not! unless the only things in your life are getting drunk and going out for food (which would be a bit sad) you do not have to sacrifice anything! there is so many activities you can do in prep which are super fun and don’t cause you to miss out on your goals. theme parks, art galleries, zoos, beach walks and immersive experiences, crazy golf, and escape rooms all help you get your steps in, have fun and don’t involve food or drink. relationships suffer when you don’t make the effort to think outside the box and rely only on food and drink for entertainment instead of grabbing a cool bag and experiencing something different.

Pull back on training as your not growing anymore-
The reality is most people will not grow in a prep or will grow very very little (unless using excessive PEDs) this is what the off season is for however when you are in a dieting phase your training should not change, what built the muscle will be what keeps the muscle, if you pull back on training you will go flat and not look your best on stage, equally the training and recovery process burns calories so the harder you train the more you will burn helping with the fat loss without doing hours of cardio. keep training hard keep going til failure and you will bring your best look come show day.

What are some Prep myths you have heard? is there an element of truth to them? let me know…
